3 A Better Breakfast
rd
We all need to chill out so, what better way to start the day than with a brilliant breakfast. The Brekkie break is not only a great way to take some ‘me’ time but also to provide the perfect base for building the day. Of course, we all have our favourite breakfast spots! So here are some of ours;
The Book Club, Leonard Street, London
Just a short walk from Old Street, the perfect place for a lengthy Sunday morning breakfast. Notable for its versatility, this bar-cum-breakfast diner is a place for gut-busting fry-ups, health-conscious granola & yoghurt and innovative vegetarian creations. It is a venue for indulging my morning foodie whim whilst soaking up some atmosphere that has spilled over from the night before.
The Cliff House
San Fran is a great city and after a ‘night on the town’ what better place to kick-start your day than with believe it or not a traditional English, on the terrace at the Cliff House overlooking Ocean Beach and the Pacific. Not only is it ultimately relaxing, but make sure you get the early morning slot, before the crowds; and the view is simply amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
Ace Café
Famous since the early fifties, the Ace café was the venue for most of the motorbike ‘ton-up’ club with many runs originating from there and the combination of bikes and rock has been maintained ever since. It was also famous as one of the original ‘greasy spoons’ and you can still get a perfect traditional English there, although the menu has been refined. Well worth a visit, but not in a 2CV!
Garden Café
Garden Café, Finchley Road North London is my favourite, my husband and I used to go there all the time. Lovely food, MASSIVE portions and a nice relaxed atmosphere away from the hectic Finchley Road. Scrambled egg and smoked salmon please!
Juliet’s – Tunbridge Wells
Quintessentially twee. With one-off antique tea pots and old fashioned plates. It’s the perfect place for homemade, organic and locally sourced food. The place is always packed and if you fancy a little treat in the morning, go for the ‘special hot chocolate’ trust me!
Café de la Paix
Café de la Paix near Opera in Paris. Takes me back to when I was a student there and we all met up every morning to have fresh croissants, croque monsieur and fresh coffee. A great place for watching Parisian traffic!
Brick Lane Beigel Bake
If you need an early breakfast... say around 4 in the morning, then Brick Lane Bagels is the place to go, open 24 hours and the oldest and best bagel shop in London, full of wholesome smells and happy people and they do great salt beef with pickle bagels!
Rabot1745
This small, but busy cafe just screams chocolate; I love it, as it has an old chocolate factory feeling with old cocoa bean grinding machines on display and a great, friendly ambience. The perfect place to watch Borough Market’s hustle and bustle whilst enjoying huge chocolate croissants and great coffee. That’s how I like to start the day!
The Waffle House,
St Albans
My favourite breakfast spot is the Waffle House in St Albans, set in a beautiful location inside a working 16th century watermill with tables overlooking the river Ver, it’s been there for ages and specialises in great sweet and savoury Belgian style waffles, for me the bacon and syrup waffles are the best
